Christmas Tree Safety

There are many dangerous situations our pets can get into where the Christmas tree is concerned. The bright lights, yummy gifts and ornaments, shiny tinsel and tree needles are all potential hazards to your pet’s health and well-being.
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you put up your Christmas tree:

  • Keep wires for lights covered to reduce the temptation to chew on them.
  • Keep edible ornaments on a level that cannot be reached and keep edible gifts somewhere other than under the tree. Chocolate and other sweet treats can be very appealing.
  • Choking hazards such as tinsel and dry pine needles can get lodged in the throat and cause severe respiratory distress. Avoid tinsel altogether and keep needles picked up off the floor.
  • Keep tree stand covered with a tree skirt to reduce the temptation to drink the water in the stand.

We at Bluegrass wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
